What is a Type 1 Scholarship?
A Type 1 scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship offered by the United States Air Force to select students who wish to pursue a college degree. This scholarship pays 100 percent of college tuition and authorized fees at any public or private institution with an Air Force ROTC detachment. In addition to tuition, Type 1 selectees will also receive a monthly living expense stipend and an annual book stipend.
Type 1 scholarships are highly competitive and require a rigorous application process. Applicants must meet the Air Force’s physical and mental standards, and must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher. In addition, applicants must demonstrate leadership potential and have a strong commitment to service.
The application process for a Type 1 scholarship begins with the completion of the Air Force ROTC application. This application includes a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and a resume. After the application is submitted, applicants will be invited to participate in an interview. During the interview, applicants will be asked questions about their academic and professional goals, as well as their commitment to service.
Once an applicant is selected for a Type 1 scholarship, they will be required to complete a four-year commitment to the Air Force. During this time, they will be required to complete two summer field training sessions and a leadership development program. Upon completion of the four-year commitment, Type 1 selectees will be eligible to receive a commission as an officer in the Air Force.
Type 1 scholarships are an excellent opportunity for students who are looking to pursue a college degree and serve their country. The scholarship provides a unique opportunity to gain an education and serve in the military at the same time. If you are interested in applying for a Type 1 scholarship, be sure to research the application process and requirements thoroughly. Good luck!
